Earls Court podcast

The London Society has launched a new podcast series, called London Explained. In each episode it  focuses on a different area within the capital and explore its past, present and future. Our city is constantly undergoing many changes and nothing stays frozen forever.

However, it's important to understand what gives a place the identity that is so often cherished by local residents. What defines this character and how can we record the stories that have come to represent whole communities? How can this be maintained while building the places and spaces needed for our changing population?

In the first episode of this new series, Dave Hill explores the history of Earls Court, alongside the upcoming regeneration plans for the 40 acre site. This legendary part of inner west London that sits in Zone 1 has been around for most of the last 100 years but there has been a pause on development ever since the Earls Court Exhibition Centres were demolished in 2015.

The Earls Court Development Company (ECDC) who acquired the site in 2019, are looking to the future, with  a vision to create wonder through the renewal of the site as a place for creation, innovation and inclusive neighbourhoods, a revived piece of city for the 22nd century. Dave tells the story of a unique part of the capital, explores the latest vision for its renewal, and asks local people what they think.
